the daily lyrics all great and goober, 4-29-20

Day (enter your number here) of the lockdown. I gotsa find a way to eat up my time which doesn’t include building a pillow fort in the kitchen and snacking all day. So I’m sitting on the front stoop this morning wandering my saved sites and came upon a Supertramp video of them performing the song ‘Breakfast In America’. I love that song, mostly because of these specific lyrics:

Take a look at my girlfriend, She’s the only one I got. Not much of a girlfriend, Never seem to get a lot.

I only wish I had written them. Sigh.

Anyhoo, every weekday on The Gatwick Compound, I rarely has an idea of what to write as part of my therapy. This morning was no exception but thanks to the boys in this band they inspired me to consider song lyrics which frequently pop up in my punkin haid. Any kind of lyrics. Favorite lyrics, confounding lyrics and just downright ugh! lyrics. I began this post with lyrics under the headings of ‘good’, ‘bad’ and ‘ugly’ but the more I considered them the less I cared whether they fit under any category as much as for some reason they manage to burble their ways back around on the git’tar* into my skull. Our Persistent Readers can decide which category these lyrics fall under.

My bride brought up the notion of when mentioning a band’s name which lyrics do you automatically associate with them? Here are some of them.

(P.S. – thank you in advance for reading. Sincerely, Paul & Yoko McCartney)

The Rolling Stones – Miss You

Your phone rings
It’s just some friends of mine that say
“Hey, what’s the matter, man?
We’re gonna come around at twelve
With some Puerto Rican girls that’s just dyin’ to meet you
We’re gonna bring a case of wine
Hey, let’s go mess and fool around
You know, like we used to”

Bon Jovi, Shot Through The Heart

Shot through the heart
And you’re to blame
Darlin’, you give love a bad name

Billy Paul, Me and Mrs. Jones

Me and Mrs. Jones

We both know that it’s wrong
But it’s much too strong
To let it go now

Earth, Wind & Fire, Reasons

Oooh! And- after the love game has been played
All our illusions were just a parade
And all the reasons start to fade

Billy Joel, Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)

Anthony works in the grocery store
Savin’ his pennies for some day
Mama Leone left a note on the door
She said
“Sonny, move out to the country”

Oh but workin’ too hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack
You oughta know by now
Who needs a house out in Hackensack?
Is that all you get for your money?

Jethro Tull, Aqualung

Do you still remember
The December’s foggy freeze
When the ice that
Clings on to your beard was
Screaming agony.
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
With deep-sea-diver sounds,
And the flowers bloom like
Madness in the spring.

Supertramp, Breakfast in America

Take a look at my girlfriend
She’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend
Never seem to get a lot

Take a jumbo across the water
Like to see America
See the girls in California
I’m hoping it’s going to come true
But there’s not a lot I can do

Could we have kippers for breakfast
Mummy dear, mummy dear
They got to have ’em in Texas
‘Cause everyone’s a millionaire

Mellencamp, Small Town

No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Yeah! Yeah!

Alice Cooper, Blue Turk

You’re so very picturesque you’re so very cold
It tastes like roses on your breath but graveyards on your soul whoa hmm
One spastic explosion two pressure cookers go insane
It makes me act crazy I shiver but I love this game
You’re so very ordinary you’re so very lame
Tastes like whiskey on your lips and earthworms rule your brain

The Beatles, A Day In The Life

Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream

You say “coke”, I say “caine”
You say “John”, I say “Wayne”
“Hot dog”, I say, “Cool it, man”

“Income tax”, I say “Jesus!”
I don’t wanna be a candidate
For Vietnam or Watergate
‘Cause all I want to do is

Bicycle bicycle bicycle

Psalm 150:1-6

Hallelujah!
Praise God in his holy house of worship,
    praise him under the open skies;
Praise him for his acts of power,
    praise him for his magnificent greatness;
Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
    praise by strumming soft strings;
Praise him with castanets and dance,
    praise him with banjo and flute;
Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
praise him with fiddles and mandolin.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
    Hallelujah!
