Short version: Read the Bible.
Long version: Years ago when My Sweet Rib and The Purging Lutheran came to Jesus we were excited about reading the Bible and bought books to help understand what we were reading. We bought books, mostly from the Lutheran point of view, about the gospels and, well, what’s more important than the gospels? Anyhoo, it’s always a good idea to study the Bible but better to read the Bible. When you open your Bible utter a prayer to The Holy Ghost for understanding what you are about to read. God offers us The Spirit explicitly to help us understand God’s love for us. Don’t stop reading books about cultural and theological backgrounds of the the times of the prophets, histories of the Jews, etc. but realize there is a difference between knowledge garnered by your deep study and wisdom entrusted to you by The Holy Ghost.
This book was donated to a local Christian bookstore so she could sell it.
“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
