Ah, yes, a cup that holds very much water. It’s the kind you fill with ice, add water, and keep at your work desk to sip from. It keeps you from getting hungry plus gives you the opportunity to take a bathroom break once every 90 minutens. If smokers can take a five minute break several times a day, why can’t you stare at a bathroom stall door two or three times? That’s true business compassion for the clean-lunged employee.
Are you a ‘cup half-filled’ or a ‘cup half-empty’ personality? You look at this cup and say, “This cup is neither.”
What type personality does that make you? Think deeply about it this weekend. You might think, “There is no water, thus empty. But air? It makes it full!” If you think this, you must come to the same conclusion noted playwrite George Bernard Shaw did,
“You see things; and you say “Why?” But I dream things that never were; and I say “Why not?””
Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.
