The shirt reads just fine until you get to the phrase, “authentic quality”. All governments are messes because they are owned and operated by sinful men. The city is so cool, though. The The Purging Lutheran and My Sweet Rib have been there a couple times and the monuments and the words inscribed on them are inspiring. The museums are must sees, the war memorials are touching, and the Holocaust Center is beyond belief. My father was a huge news follower and certainly had his opinions about government, especially about Communism.
I never stood a chance.
I love watching news and I love watching politics but both have become so cockeyed it is tough to take a stand, publicly, without getting badgered over this or that. As difficult as it can be to accept, The Lord reminds us that government and laws are meant to be for our good, to keep peace between peoples. Few people ever like reading that because they want what they want even at the expense of others. What some people like even less is Scripture that defends it.
1 Timothy 2:1-7
Simple Faith and Plain Truth
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free. Eventually the news is going to get out. This and this only has been my appointed work: getting this news to those who have never heard of God, and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth.
Pray for the president, that he may follow the ways of Christ with his decision making. Pray for the courts that they seek justice for all humans. Pray for those who pass laws, that they are intended for the good of all citizens, not just those who have the loudest mouthpiece. Pray for those who keep the peace and rescue and save the injured and downtrodden. Pray for these people because that’s what God requires of you.
Deuteronomy 27:1-3 Moses commanded the leaders of Israel and charged the people: Keep every commandment that I command you today. On the day you cross the Jordan into the land that God, your God, is giving you, erect large stones and coat them with plaster. As soon as you cross over the river, write on the stones all the words of this Revelation so that you’ll enter the land that God, your God, is giving you, that land flowing with milk and honey that God, the God-of-Your-Fathers, promised you.
