Hats Off to Larry – Del Shannon

Once I had a pretty girl,
Her name it doesn’t matter
She went away with another guy
Now he won’t even look at her

Hats off to Larry,
He broke your heart,
Just like you broke mine when you
Said we must part.
He told you lies, now it’s
Your turn to cry cry cry-why
Now that Larry said goodbye to you.

It’s a squiggly board. Others call it a note board. Both are accurate. Ordinarily there are notes written with a dry erase marker that say, ‘tissue paper‘, ‘appt 4-15 8:30‘ and the seemingly undecipherable ‘pr. frento 6&8-umgo‘ which translates to ‘pringles sale. buy 2‘. But how is it a ‘squiggly board’? This sort of board typically hangs on the refrigerator or somewhere near the kitchen where most household action occurs. While The Purging Lutheran waits for The Lad to finish microwaving his Page 89 casserole, I’ll pick up a marker and make fanciful doodles. Then erase them. Erased like the love Larry once had for a pretty girl.

I know this may sound strange
I want you back, I think you’ll change
But there’s one more thing I gotta say

Hats off to Larry,
It may sound cruel,
But you laughed at me when you
Said we were through.
You told me lies, now it’s
Your turn to cry cry cry-why
Now that Larry said goodbye to you.

James 1:9-11   When down-and-outers get a break, cheer! And when the arrogant rich are brought down to size, cheer! Prosperity is as short-lived as a wildflower, so don’t ever count on it. You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers. Its petals wilt and, before you know it, that beautiful face is a barren stem. Well, that’s a picture of the “prosperous life.” At the very moment everyone is looking on in admiration, it fades away to nothing.
