LBJ (Lyndon Baines Johnson) was a man of many visions but was blind, blind to how many pairs of glasses he could wear on his face. During Viet Nam war demonstrations, disrespectful college students chanted pointed barbs at him, one being
“Hey, hey LBJ, how many pairs of ill-fitting frames did you wear on your face today?”.
These are glasses, prescription and sun, which are no longer useful to TPL’s family. They have been purged/donated to our local eye doctor to be shined up and sent to people who need them. The most recent pair is the one at the top. These were used by The Lad when he was in the military. Booya!
=====> It’s always time for some LBJ fun facts! <=====
LBJ so loved the soda Fresca that a Fresca soda dispenser was installed in the Oval Office.
His favorite foods were canned green peas (ugh)and tapioca (yuck).
LBJ won election to the U.S. Senate in 1948 after winning a Democratic primary by 87 votes earning the nickname ‘Landslide Lyndon’.
LBJ quote: If one morning I walked on top of the water across the Potomac River, the headline that afternoon would read: “President Can’t Swim.”.
When LBJ was visiting his ranch in Texas, he’d invite friends down and take them for a ride in his car. He’d drive down a steep incline toward the lake, pretend to lose control, and then yell, “The brakes don’t work! We’re going in! We’re going under!” The car would splash into the lake, and as everyone else was screaming, Johnson would be doubled over laughing. Turns out, Johnson was the proud owner of an Amphicar, the only amphibious passenger automobile ever mass-produced for civilians. (thanks muntal floss)
The Widow’s Offering
Mark 12:41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
