Hello. What we have here is a door screen. Not a screen door. A screen door opens and closes and opens again. This door screen fits over a door where a door window can be opened to let fresh air in and keep bugs and leaves out. However, what if someone wanted to let fresh air in, keep the leaves out BUT keep bugs from leaving the house? Has this ever happened to you? Have you visited a friend whose home is filled with mosquitos? Besides becoming a little woozy, what did you notice? Probably your friend was slapping his arms, legs, neck and forehead. Is he doing this because he likes harming bugs? Mebbe. Like Ned Flanders from The Simpsons, does he enjoy how good it feels to scratch a mosquito bite? Possibly. But what if it is some deeper and darker? What if your friend just seems to ‘enjoy’ hitting himself? This could be a sympton of a sinister plan his brain is playing out on his body. This act is called ‘self harming’. It stems from a craving to hurt oneself out of guilt for an extreme episode in one’s life or a desire to elicit attention or pity from a family member or an object of desire. Any way you look at it your friend is in need of help. Offer to help him find a doctor who can refer your friend to an appropriate therapist. You can do it.
