It’s Geography Lesson Wednesday at T.P.L. School of Maps. This is a wall map the fam bought and framed for our father, Peteris. It will soon go live with Marta in her place in Chicago. If his son is a purging Lutheran, Pete was The Collecting Lutheran. There wasn’t anything he would collect from abandoned homes or torn down properties that couldn’t be part of a house or cabin he planned to build sometime down the road. He once ‘collected’ a bowling trophy and displayed it on the mantle above the fireplace. His friends knew better than to ask him when he had taken up bowling. My father built his first house (the family home) when he was 16 years old. It is still lived in by family members in Madona, Latvia. If you look at the map, Madona is at 4:00 on the ‘center red blob’ dial. After the Soviets high-tailed it out of town in the mid 1990s, Pete considered moving back to his home. His children urge him to go but he decided to stay put in Central Indiana. He’s going back anyway as we have his and Magdalena’s (our mother) ashes in a wooden urn ready for transport once their lazy kids get off their bee-hinds and buy some plane tickets. I miss my father now and then. He was a good provider and Lord A’mighty, he loved his politics. Not just telling you who was a communist and who wasn’t (very few people, btw) but watching Fox and CNN and making fun of presidents, just not Richard Nixon. He was a huge Ross Perot supporter and always called him’Parrot’. Pete would have had the greatest fun with the 2016 elections. Oh, well. I guess this wasn’t about maps after all.
John 5:24-25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
