Today is the dead center of summer. It’s ‘heat wave’ week in the USA. Temperatures will climb past the 90°s by Wednesday and lay their hooks into the atmosphere for the rest of the week. If you are fortunate you have access to a lake, river, creek, ocean, waterfall, retention pond, pool, Slip’n’Slide, water pistols, hoses, sprinklers, rain clouds, reservoir, water balloon, bath tub, conditioned air in your car, work or home, ice cubes, refrigerated drinks, a cabana boy waving a palm frond over you in your thatch hut, or maybe even a good friend giving you the cold shoulder.

Or if it was a joint effort, it was a picture of The Spice Girls (Baby, Ginger, Posh, Scary, Sporty). If Allie wanted to poke fun at Our Marta, she’d draw a heart with “Marta Loves (fill in the name of some icky boy)” in the middle. I’m guessing the toy shovel was for her to chase Allie around the yard with while yelling, “I do not!!”.
