We welcome Pink Roy G. Biv to The Purging Lutheran’s The Purging Lutheran. While the ‘Pink Roy G. B’ part is easy to see the ‘iv’ not so much. Indigo and violet are just teeny, weeny slices set between the two colors, pink and yellow. Why get rid of such pretty paper? There are only so many paper airplanes and pieces of confetti a family ever wants to make. We made paper airplanes to practice aeronautic skills but only kept the garbage can busy. We made confetti to so we could confett at a moment’s notice but it only served to keep the vacuum cleaner clogged. If you come across a color in the Bible, here is a legend as to its significance.
Red – Suffering, sin, worry, fear, blood
Orange – Separation, Evil, Human Good, Apostasy, Root
Yellow – Life, Strength (Capacity) for Life, Light, Glory
Green – Happiness; Blessing, Plants, Fruit, Extravagance
Blue – Righteousness of God; Hardness of Heart, Self-Righteousness, Legalism
Indigo – Covered, Hidden, Secret
Violet – Justice, Judgment, Royalty, Jealousy
White – Sanctification, Love, Pure
Black – Death, Darkness, World
So what you have are the colors of the rainbow plus black and white. Why does the rainbow rate a mention in the Bible? The chapters Genesis 6,7,8, & 9 1/2 cover the story of evil in the world at the time, God’s call upon Noah to build an ark to save humanity and animals, plus the covenant to His people that He will never destroy the Earth through water ever again. It takes less than 10 minutes to read. Here is the end of that story just so you know it doesn’t have a sad ending. That’d be a bummer if it did.
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
